About the UCR Citrus Gift Collection

UCR Citrus Collection Bottles

The UCR Citrus Collection is a carefully curated assortment of gourmet products featuring the distinctive — and often unique — flavors of the University of California, Riverside (UCR) campus.

It is made with produce from the University Citrus Variety Collection, one of the world's most diverse living collections of citrus species. As a leader in sustainable global food and entomology research, UCR produces fruits and flavor ingredients simply not found elsewhere in North American.

The Collection features late-harvest olive oil and flavored vinaigrettes. Each starts with locally grown, sustainably harvested olives from the Temecula Olive Oil Company, hand-pressed using traditional methods to produce full, fresh, flavorful 100% extra virgin olive oil, and is then blended with citrus and other products harvested at the UCR campus.

Other items include Seville Orange Marmalade; a unique, citrus-flavored chocolate bar; and citrus-blended salt and sugar. Special gift assortment collections are also available.

A (Very) Brief History of the UCR Citrus Variety Collection

The UCR Citrus Experiment Station and its Citrus Variety Collection were established in Riverside in the early 1900s to support the needs of the developing citrus industry in Southern California. Over the years, the world-renowned Citrus Experiment Station became the foundation of the University of California Riverside campus and has remained at the forefront of agricultural research, and especially citrus research.

Today UCR has expertise in many disciplines, yet the Citrus Variety Collection, consisting of more than 1,000 different citrus cultivars and species from around the world, remains one of the premier citrus germplasm collections in the world and a valuable university resource.  As a leader in sustainable global food and entomology research, UCR continues to produce unique fruits and flavor ingredients not found elsewhere in North America, as well as some developed at UCR.  A unique sampling can be found in our products.
